Your Rights When You Move

Required disclosures for interstate household goods moves, furnished by Hutley Van Systems Inc.

Federal law requires every interstate household goods mover to give you specific information before your move. Everything on this page is that information. If anything here is unclear, call us at (407) 960-0875 and we will walk you through it.

The two things that matter most

1. Choose your liability coverage deliberately

Every interstate shipment moves under one of two levels of coverage, and the difference is large. Released Value costs you nothing and limits our liability to 60 cents per pound, per article — a 40-pound television would be settled at $24 regardless of what it is worth. Full Value Protection costs more and makes us responsible for repairing, replacing, or paying for lost or damaged items. Your estimate states which one you selected. Read that line before you sign it.

2. Note damage at delivery, before you sign

When your shipment arrives, check it against your inventory and record any loss or damage on the inventory form before signing. Your ability to recover on a claim can depend on what is written there. You are never required to sign anything releasing us from liability in exchange for delivery.

What you will pay

Our estimates are non-binding, which means your final charges are based on the actual weight of your shipment, the services actually performed, and our published tariff. Under a non-binding estimate, we cannot require you to pay more than 110% of the estimate at the time of delivery. Any remaining balance is billed afterward, due within 30 days.

Our rates, rules, and charges are set out in our published tariff. You have the right to inspect it. Request a copy at any time by emailing info@hutleyvansystems.com or calling (407) 960-0875, and we will make the applicable sections available to you.

Claims for loss or damage

If something is lost or damaged, tell us as soon as you can and note it on your inventory at delivery. File a claim online, or submit one in writing to info@hutleyvansystems.com or by mail to Hutley Van Systems Inc., Altamonte Springs, FL 32701.

Filing deadlines

  • Interstate moves: you have 9 months from the date of delivery to file a written claim.
  • Military (DP3) moves: submit a Notice of Loss or Damage within 75 days of delivery to preserve Full Replacement Value; the claim itself follows.
  • Florida intrastate moves: per applicable state requirements — contact us and we will confirm the window that applies to your move.

How we respond

We acknowledge every claim within 30 days of receiving it, and we aim to resolve claims within 30 days — well inside the 120 days federal law allows. If a claim genuinely cannot be resolved in that window, we will tell you in writing why and when to expect a decision.
